And while I loved reading, devouring the Encyclopaedia Britannica where I could escape to far-away exotic lands, attempts to make me write my own stories, failed. I was told from a very young age, I could tell a good story, and growing up in a time when children where asked to be seen not heard, was enough.

In I moved to Melbourne, Australia, to escape what I considered the claustrophobic environment of having too many extended family members around me. Waking up one morning I realised I had missed out on something — the extended education I secretly craved that was not offered when I left school.

I commenced a B. After a year settling our family into a much bigger city, I enrolled and completed my B. Just 16 years old when taken to Auschwitz. From the experiences I was fortunate to have through the writing and touring of these books, I was honoured to bring you my first non-fiction collection of stories — Stories of Hope. Since releasing The Tattooist of Auschwitz , I have received thousands of emails from around the world, filled with personal stories from readers about their lives, loves, losses and learning.

And this inspired me to write about the art of listening. Listening to others is what enabled me to write the stories I have and I was delighted to share my stories about listening and the extraordinary lessons and life-changing experiences that shared stories can bring about.
